NETA X Review: Interior, Exterior, and Performance

When it comes to choosing a vehicle for everyday family use, the visual appeal, ample space, high ground clearance, and versatility of SUVs tend to be key factors that attract consumers. Moreover, as environmental consciousness grows, many electric vehicle manufacturers have introduced all-electric SUV models, targeting eco-conscious consumers. One such model that has been gaining attention recently is the NETA X.

NETA X is positioned as a compact all-electric SUV and offers four different variants. It comes in two versions: 401 km and 501 km of estimated range. Today, we'll focus on the 2023 model 500, to explore its overall performance and assess its suitability for family use.

Exterior Design: Futuristic Appeal with a Youthful Flair

The overall design of the NETA X appears to draw inspiration from sci-fi aesthetics, making it apt for the modern era. The front end features a closed-off grille with a prominent radar sensor right in the center. The L-shaped headlights on either side further highlight the car's identity. Below the headlights, a "C"-shaped element is highlighted, and the darkened interior of the headlights adds a sporty touch. The sizeable lower air intake is reminiscent of an open mouth, giving the car a distinctive, bold appearance.

When viewing the NETA X from the side, you'll notice rich design elements that underscore its electric nature. Sharp lines accentuate the car's dynamic character, and there's a pronounced rise in the rear quarter area, conveying strength and sportiness. The floating-style roof is not only attractive but also in line with contemporary design preferences. The addition of silver chrome strips along the lower edge of the doors helps prevent discoloration, offering a more lasting visual appeal. Completing the profile are the 18-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear, the NETA X displays a striking, angular design with a continuous taillight strip that echoes the front grille. The shape is distinct and well-defined. The lower section of the taillights features a recessed contour with a smooth finish, emphasizing the attention to detail. The rear bumper is generously accented with large black surfaces, adding to the SUV's robust and adventurous character.

Interior Design: Smart and Energetic

The interior of the NETA X strikes a balance between being smartly appointed and vibrant. The predominant black color scheme is complemented by white trim details. Notably, soft materials are generously applied in frequently touched areas, such as the seats, center console, and door panels, providing a pleasant tactile experience. The instrument panel incorporates electronic gear selection, offering both convenience and contemporary design. Additionally, the vehicle features a leather multifunctional steering wheel and wireless charging functionality.

For the tech-savvy, the NETA X boasts an 8.9-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, the infotainment system includes GPS navigation, roadside assistance services, Bluetooth connectivity, in-car voice recognition, over-the-air (OTA) updates, voice-controlled features, and even karaoke functions. The system also offers facial recognition as an option, which is not only convenient but also a fun feature. The floating design of the infotainment screen enhances its visual appeal and allows for customizable layouts, making it user-friendly.

Features and Safety Equipment: Well-Equipped for Practicality

The NETA X comes with various features, such as brake assist systems, vehicle stability control, tire pressure monitoring, child seat interfaces, rear parking radar, a 360-degree panoramic camera, transparent chassis display, cruise control, automated parking, hill-start assist, hill descent control, advanced driver assistance systems, and regenerative braking. It also offers optional features like lane departure warning, forward collision warning, side collision warning, DOW door opening warning, active braking, lane-keeping assist, lane centering, driver fatigue warning, road traffic sign recognition, full-speed adaptive cruise control, and automatic parking.

The practicality of the NETA X's features is quite impressive. However, it's worth noting that the L2-level advanced driver assistance system is an optional upgrade. Including advanced safety features as standard would be a more convenient choice for drivers, particularly when it comes to the automatic parking feature, which uses cameras and radar systems to determine parking space and distance and helps drivers park effortlessly.

Interior Space: Comfortable and Roomy

The NETA X, classified as a compact SUV, boasts dimensions of 4619mm in length, 1860mm in width, and 1628mm in height, with a 2770mm wheelbase. In terms of interior space, it offers a comfortable environment with sport-style seating. The seats are upholstered in faux leather with patterned designs that enhance their overall aesthetics. Rear passengers will appreciate the generous legroom, especially when viewed from the backrest angle. The front and passenger seats support power adjustments and height, and backrest angle adjustments. The rear seats have a 40:60 split for added flexibility.

The NETA X's spacious interior is quite impressive, offering ample room for a compact SUV. For example, a passenger standing at 174cm tall with a slightly heavier build found there was more than enough legroom, with about a fist's width of space remaining. Headroom allowed for more than a fist's width of free space. In the realm of compact SUVs, the NETA X offers noteworthy space.

Powertrain: Balanced Performance and Efficiency

The NETA X is powered by a 163-horsepower permanent magnet synchronous motor with a total power output of 120 kW and a maximum torque of 210 N·m. It is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery that supports fast charging in just 0.5 hours. With an estimated range of 501 km on a full charge, the NETA X offers competitive mileage within its segment. The power is channeled through a single-speed transmission. The chassis includes a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension.

During the test drive, we covered a distance of approximately 70 km. Overall, the NETA X's focus is on family use. It offers responsive acceleration for smooth starts, though it may not have the same explosive power as a sports car. However, in comparison to similarly sized gasoline vehicles, the acceleration is notable. The braking feel is not heavy, and the vehicle's body control is stable. The car doesn't exhibit nosediving, and the suspension tuning is relatively soft, which makes it comfortable when passing over speed bumps.

Final Thoughts: A Well-Rounded Choice

As a family-oriented vehicle, the NETA X combines youthful and contemporary design elements with a sporty edge. The interior layout is crisp, with abundant soft-touch materials where it counts the most. It boasts an impressive infotainment system, and the 501 km estimated range is commendable in its segment. However, the best choice ultimately depends on individual preferences. What do you think? Is the NETA X a compelling option for family use?
